Ocean Protection: Response to Greenpeace Campaign (24 February 2020)

It is my understanding that the Government are committed to concluding negotiations on a legally binding UN agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas. It is welcome that experienced representatives from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs are playing a key role in these negotiations.

I also understand that 41 Marine Conservation Zones have recently been created, where potentially damaging and harmful activities will be minimised to allow habitats to recover.

The forthcoming International Ocean Strategy is also welcome, establishing plans to work alongside international partners to secure a prosperous ocean future.
