There must be urgent action to equip children and young people with running blades, as was promised in the March 2016 Budget, Rt Hon Cheryl Gillan MP said today.
At Business Questions this morning, Cheryl raised the issue that no child has yet been equipped with running blades, despite a £1.5 million fund being earmarked for this purpose.
“ The Paralympic movement started in Stoke Mandeville and we were all terribly impressed by the achievements of our Paralympians in Rio,” she said.” Despite the £1.5 million for research and running blades for children, 8 months on, no child has yet benefited.
“ Please can we move into the fast lane so that we can equip and inspire future Paralympians?”
Cheryl’s plea to the Leader of the House, Rt Hon David Lidington MP, was greeted warmly as Stoke Mandeville is in his Aylesbury constituency.
David Lidington expressed his concern and said he will take up the matter with the Treasury and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
