SHADOW Secretary of State for Wales Cheryl Gillan MP today called on the Government to set targets for cutting red tape for small businesses.
Speaking after her first Welsh Questions at Westminster since becoming shadow Welsh Secretary, Mrs Gillan said:
“Conservatives are committed to cutting through the burden of red tape which is holding back businesses in Wales.
“With unemployment rising in Wales it is more important than ever to address the regulatory burden which inhibits small businesses.
“The Secretary of State for Wales must tell us what targets his Government is setting to cut the burden of red tape on Welsh businesses.
“The Government has regulated businesses across the United Kingdom on an unprecedented scale.
“Red tape and regulation are damaging to business, particularly small businesses which are hit hardest by the cost and time taken to deal with them.
“I remain concerned that the Government has not done anything to prevent the build-up of more regulation and that it has not indicated what resources it will commit to cutting this growing bureaucracy.”
