QUEEN'S SPEECH "DRAWS UP THE BATTLE LINES", SAYS CHERYL GILLAN MP

The Parliamentary programme set out in the Queen’s Speech “draws up the battle lines for the General Election”, commented Cheryl Gillan MP.

“ The emphasis on law and order, and security, sets the agenda for the election which most politicians and commentators believe will be held in Spring 2005,” said the Chesham and Amersham MP.

“ However, the plain fact is that this Government have failed to provide the police officers which my constituents want to see on patrol,” said Mrs Gillan. “ The irony is that, as the Government presented its platitudes about crime, there was a high profile burglary in the Seer Green area which shows that we need many more police officers working in this constituency.”
