AMERSHAM BECOMES 81ST STEP-FREE STATION ON THE TRANSPORT FOR LONDON TUBE NETWORK
“ A well-deserved triumph for disability campaigners,” says Rt Hon Dame Cheryl Gillan MP
It has been a long campaign with many setbacks, but this week’s announcement by Transport for London that Amersham station is step-free is “A well-deserved triumph for disability campaigners”, says Chesham & Amersham’s MP, Rt Hon Dame Cheryl Gillan.
Dame Cheryl has been lobbying for this for over seven years and is “delighted” that the goal has now been achieved. Along the way, Dame Cheryl has reminded Transport Secretaries of the importance of step-free travel and met Boris Johnson when he was London Mayor to urge him to support the campaign. There was disappointment when work on a passenger lift was postponed some years ago, but now all the work has been done to enable people to travel more easily.
“ This is not only good news for people with disabilities, but for elderly travellers, parents with young children and anyone struggling with luggage,” says Dame Cheryl.
