IN PRAISE OF PUBLIC SERVICE 7 October 2020
As Members of Parliament for Buckinghamshire constituencies we know we speak for all our constituents when we say we have immense respect for all those in our public and care services who have done so much for our communities since March 2020. We wanted to thank all those who are planning and preparing, as part of their daily work, to help their fellow members of the public, and to say they are appreciated across our community in Bucks.
Our NHS has been at the forefront of this effort, but we must not forget all those who support the frontline workers behind the scenes. There are the medical researchers who are working so hard on developing fast and reliable tests, as well as those aiming to find a vaccine, and those providing care for every patient, in local hospitals or at GP practices and the administrators on whom the planning responsibilities are placed. The social care sector and especially care homes have been faced with an unprecedented challenge as a result of the pandemic. Tasked with caring for the most vulnerable groups in society, care homes have not only protected the health of older and elderly people but allowed them to thrive in this difficult time.
Teachers and others in the field of education have spent many weeks ensuring the safe return of students to full time education, as well as keeping in contact with their pupils during the long period of the lockdown. Those years are vital to the future of every young person and great efforts have been spent in ensuring that their education is disrupted as little as possible.
Our local council staff have been keeping essential services going throughout the crisis, in addition to coordinating the measures needed to contain and control the spread of the virus. The emergency blue-light services have also been involved in meeting the challenges of keeping all of us safe and we pay tribute to all those who regularly put their lives on the line for our safety.
We thank you all for the efforts you are making every day and will be asked to make over the coming months.
