New Clubhouse for Chesham Rugby Club

RT HON DAME CHERYL GILLAN MP OPENS FUTURE BUILDING FOR CHESHAM RUGBY CLUB

When Chesham Rugby Club asked their local MP, Rt Hon Dame Cheryl Gillan, to celebrate the opening of their new Future Building in Chartridge Lane, Chesham, on Saturday 8 September, she did not ‘pass’, but joined the ‘scrum’ of happy supporters at the event.

Cheryl welcomed the chance to meet many of those who have been involved with the ‘Stags’ since they first formed the club in 1982. After 36 years, Chesham Rugby Club has thriving youth teams as well as fielding men’s and women’s teams.

She spoke of her own childhood in Wales where watching rugby in Llandaff fields with her father was a regular event and she still supports Wales!!! She was also delighted to meet Rocky Clark MBE and Kat Merchant who coach the teams which reflects the great progress women have made in the sport.

“ In their own words,” said Cheryl, “ this is a true community club centred on sport and inclusivity for all. I was delighted to be the guest on this occasion and to congratulate everyone who has worked so hard to raise funds for this excellent new clubhouse.”
