RT HON DAME CHERYL GILLAN MP WELCOMES LIFTING OF RESTRICTIONS FOR CHURCHES AND OTHER PLACES OF WORSHIP

At Questions to the Minister for the Church Commissioners in the House of Commons this morning, 25 June, Rt Hon Dame Cheryl Gillan MP welcomed the lifting of restrictions for Churches.

Commenting later, Dame Cheryl said:

"Several constituents have had to sadly postpone key life events such as weddings christenings and funerals. Even my colleague who speaks for the Church Commissioners in the House has had to cancel his own daughter’s wedding. I hope now that they will be able to resume their plans in the light of the lifting of the restrictions and that congregations can return to church suitable socially distanced.

“Many people have taken part in virtual church services with indications showing increased attendance. I hope that churches will be able to cater for virtual worshippers but also will welcome back physical congregations in safety.
