RT HON DAME CHERYL GILLAN MP WELCOMES THE MOVES TOWARDS LESSENING LOCKDOWN

The Rt Hon Dame Cheryl Gillan, MP for Chesham & Amersham, has welcomed the Prime Minister’s statement – made today in the House of Commons – that are designed to ease lockdown measures.

“ The measures will allow people to see more of their families and friends, whilst enabling more people and businesses to get back to work. Following the recent opening up of ‘non essential’ shops, when 4 July arrives, many more businesses can start to function provided proper precautions are taken and they adhere to Covid-19 secure guidelines,” said Dame Cheryl.

This will include pubs, restaurants, hairdressers, tourist and leisure attractions, cinemas, museums and galleries, theme parks and ‘staycation’ holidays can also be enjoyed.

“ I am pleased that places of worship, community centres, libraries and social clubs will be able to open again,” said Dame Cheryl. “ There are also relaxations of the previous rules to allow two households to meet with social distancing measures.”

Dame Cheryl added: “It is important that everyone should keep washing their hands, stay 2 metres apart if possible or to mitigate the risks at 1 metre if not, avoid public transport if they can or wear a face covering if they do use public transport. If anyone thinks they are infected, they should get tested immediately and follow self-isolation rules if told to do so by NHS Test and Trace.”
