RT HON DAME CHERYL GILLAN MP WELCOMES GOVERNMENT DECISION TO PUBLISH NEW AUTISM STRATEGY INCLUDING CHILDREN FOR THE FIRST TIME
2019 sees the 10th anniversary of the Autism Act, the Private Member’s Bill introduced by the Rt Hon Dame Cheryl Gillan MP. During that anniversary year, the Government announced today that it will publish a new autism strategy including children for the first time.
“ This is wonderful news and I welcome it,” said Dame Cheryl today. “ It will aim to improve the outcomes for children on the autism spectrum.”
The government has responded to a report published by Dame Cheryl and Mark Lever, the chief executive of the National Autistic Society, on Autism and Education in England 2017.
“ I am so pleased that plans are coming forward to help children with autism to reach their full potential,” said Dame Cheryl.
The Autism Act was ground-breaking, as it was the first ever such Parliamentary legislation to be linked to the condition of autism.
