Library Access in Buckinghamshire (25 March 2020)

You can still access your local library – online!

We might all be staying at home but that doesn’t mean missing out on your library service!

Buckinghamshire’s libraries are adapting quickly to this changing situation. We have closed our libraries following the Government’s instruction to us all to stay at home, but you can still access our fantastic library service and still borrow books, magazines and newspapers online.

Buckinghamshire libraries have already:

  • waived all fines and fees
  • extended the loan periods of hard copy books until June so customers with borrowed books don’t have to return them
  • increased the amount of eBooks and other online resources available to borrow

To find out all about what we offer online go to www.buckscc.gov.uk/elibrary. We are working hard to make it quick and easy to join online if you’re not already a member. Please keep checking our website as above to get the latest info and please bear with us as we update the pages.

  • Library members can access eBooks by downloading the ‘Libby’ and ‘Overdrive’ apps on eReaders, tablets, computers or smartphones, with no hire charges and no overdue fees. There are books for all ages, both fiction and non-fiction.
  • For those who enjoy listening to books you can download and listen to eAudiobooks using the BorrowBox app. Listen to your favourite stories on your MP3 player, computer, tablet or smartphone.
  • We also have a fantastic collection of online eMagazines – covering many popular titles. Use the RBdigital app to get hold of your favourite magazine online – with titles covering gardening, food, cars, digital technology and much more.
  • And you can now read a wide selection of the day’s newspapers and magazines from the UK and around the world free with our exciting eNewspapers available through PressReader. Content can be read straightaway on your device, or you can download to read later. Previous editions are also available.
  • Buckinghamshire Libraries offer a wide range of eReference resources which can be accessed from anywhere, including Britannica Online with junior and student sections to support those studying at home.

Gareth Williams is Buckinghamshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Health said:

“I’m so proud of the way our library service has already adapted to start helping our communities through this crisis. We already have a full online service in place so this is the ideal time to check it out! Books, study resources, your favourite magazine or daily newspaper – you can still get it all online through the library service.

We are working hard on making it easy to join up online so keep checking back with us. I do hope as many people as possible can find some solace in reading and using our library service online as we all stay home.”

  • It’s free and easy to join Buckinghamshire Libraries if you’re not already a member. All the information about this and how to access the extensive range of digital resources can be found on our website at www.buckscc.gov.uk/libraries. Please bear with us as we continue to update with the latest information.
