Dear Dame Cheryl
Thank you for your letter of 7 November to the Home Secretary ……… expressing concern about the Immigration case of Asia Bibi. Your letter has been passed to me to reply as agreed by your constituency office.
The acquittal and release of Asia Bibi will be very welcome news for her family and for all of those who have campaigned in Pakistan and around the world for her release.
As the Prime Minister stated in Parliament on 14 November, the UK Government’s primary concern is for the safety and security of Asia Bibi and her family; we want to see a swift resolution of the situation. Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has publicly supported the Supreme Court and promised to uphold the rule of law, while providing continued protection for Asia Bibi and her family. A number of countries are in discussion about providing a safe destination for her once the legal process is complete. Given the sensitivity of this case, it would not be right to comment on the details of those proposals at this stage.
